Blog Post #1
Hi guys! My name is Brittany Castrataro and I am a junior from Cleveland, Ohio. I am the youngest of four and have three older sisters and a boy dog. I major in Sports Industry and minor in Business here at Ohio State. I am very outgoing and love to meet new people. I just recently turned 21 last September and I am loving life. I currently live with 5 guys and 4 girls in an off campus house. During high school, I was involved in with the Spanish club and on the girls basketball team. Being involved in high school is important when wanting to make new friends. I can say while playing basketball I made an immense amount of friends on my team and on other opposing teams. Some of these people attend Ohio State with me and we are still currently friends. I only played basketball in high school because I was most dedicated to that sport and I wanted to excel in it. I have played basketball since 3rd grade and getting recruited by a high school to play for them was a very big step in my life. One achievement that I received was getting player of the week. This was a huge accomplishment since a girls basketball player has not received this honor in years. Another thing I love to do is watch sports. I am very into football, baseball, and basketball. My favorite teams are the Cleveland Cavaliers, New Orleans Saints, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. I chose sports industry because of how passionate I am for all sports and given the opportunity to work for a sports team has been my dream forever. My sister currently works for an NBA agent and that job really came out of the blue. I am hoping that I can get the opportunity to receive some type of job similar to hers. My current jobs have not been very exciting, so I am willing to do whatever I can do strive toward my goal. After attending Ohio State, I have loved Columbus so much that I hope to call it my home someday. A lot of great memories have come from this place and I could not imagine leaving.
Running
for a student council position is one way to get a hand on lesson to handling
successful school events and engaging in-group projects. During my senior year
of high school, I qualified to get the honor of becoming Secretary of my senior
class. This was one of the biggest leadership experiences I encountered throughout my life. My
job was to draft ideas for days of the week, coordinate what games were played
at the pep rally, and run the rallies so everything would be efficient. Since
my high school was pretty big, we had to make sure someone in every grade was
involved in a game that took place. The biggest priority was our school dances because these were the most important event for the students. This required a lot of preparation and dedication.
First,
a group meeting had to be addressed to figure out the details for the dance. Then,
we had to go on a trip to look at places for the dance and try the food out.
Next, we sold tickets to the dance during lunchtime for $150 a couple. Lastly,
the day of the dance, we went early and made sure everything was arranged. Leadership
is an exceptional strategy that relates particularly to my event. In order for someone to be an
effective leader, they have to be determined to get the job done and very
sociable. These are two important aspects that my staff and I all represented.
We were the leaders of our school and role models to some. I believe that leadership
is significant to success and the key to ensure that the job will get done
efficiently and effectively. Being secretary of student council has helped me become the woman I am today and has given me the skills to succeed in life.
Unfortunately for me, I never became involved in student council back in High School. I was always a bit jealous of them for deciding many of the events that occurred in the school that I actually took part in, like dances or pep rallies. Reading your post it is clear that this sounded like a strenuous but very awesome job for you.
